The Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE of Kristian Poulsen, Nicki Thiim and David Heinemeier Hansson qualified third in the GTE-Am class of the 24 hours of Le Mans. The practise and qualifying session went well for Young Driver AMR. Apart front a small off Heinemeier Hansson caused by a puncture in the first qualifying session Wednesday night, which cause damage to the front end of the Aston Martin, all three drivers worked through their program, concentrated on set-up work for the race and constantly improved the car.
„We are very happy so far, qualifying went really good for us“, Young Driver AMR team principal Jan Struve said. „Unfortunately Nicki´s first flying lap was destroyed when a car in front of him spun and on the two following laps he had traffic. Otherwise we might had a chance for second place. But the pace is good and all three drivers are very happy with the car. The car is very well prepared and running fine.”
Kristian Poulsen was also satisfied: „Our Qualifying session was really good. The car is very easy to drive and is quick, I’m confident for the race.“
“The qualifying was crazy, I have never seen so many cars in the walls and getting destroyed, so we are really happy that today’s session was trouble free for us“, David Heinemeier Hansson said. „It was my first qualifying in a closed top GT car at Le Mans and that was quite different to the open top prototype car I drove in the previous years. I still have to got used to it, due to many interruptions in the Qualifying session I couldn’t drive many laps, but the race is very long. The cars feels really good, I like the set up and I think we have a comfortable car we can drive a long time.“
